Give your skin a detox - how CBD can support skin health, naturally.

The skin gods are not very generous. They bestow their favor sparingly and so those of us with clear, even textured, moisturized, blemish free skin are few and far between.  Because of this, we spend thousands of dollars in our lifetime, addressing skincare woes – from acne, to rosacea to dryness to uneven tone. Of all of these, nothing is more common and problematic than acne. Acne affects approximately, 50 million Americans every year and not all of them are teenagers.

The average American woman will spend $300,000 on face products in her lifetime. Just sit with that for a moment. That’s the cost of a house on your face! Many of these skincare treatments in fact make the problem worse. Dr. Sam Bunting, a dermatologist and Youtuber says “One of the hardest things about starting a new skincare regimen is getting my clients to ditch all the expensive products they have been using and switch to a simpler routine.” But natural skincare is on the rise and CBD is one ingredient that is slowly gaining popularity in the market. Here are just some of the ways CBD can help you support skin health, naturally.

Remind me again, what is CBD exactly?

Cannabidiol or CBD is one of many phyto cannabinoids naturally found in a hemp plant. CBD, along with hemp's other healing compounds, has been increasingly recognized for its natural therapeutic qualities in physical and mental well-being. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, which means it doesn’t make you feel high.

How can CBD support healthy skin?

Cannabidiol is a compound that packs a punch in terms of it’s healing properties. Research has shown, that cannabidiol offers some anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. It might also help control acne outbreaks by controlling sebum production in the skin. Studies indicate that it might be effective in treating psoriasis and eczema as well. CBD is safe to use topically provided you’re choosing the right type of product.

The most effective use of CBD, however, is pain relief and pain management.  When looking for CBD products, you want to choose something that is natural or botanical, because chemicals are often the culprits that wreak havoc on the skin. Natural CBD products that are fragrance and dye free are your best bet if looking for something topical to add to your skincare regimen.

When choosing CBD products for skincare, understanding the labels are important. Ideally look for products that mention “cannabidiol”, “broad-spectrum CBD,” “hemp-CBD,”and “full spectrum CBD.” Full spectrum extracts contain trace amounts of THC but within legal limits and nothing that produces psychoactive effects. Essentially, nothing that gets you high.

So, should I try CBD products?

Yes! We love all things CBD and believe in the efficacy and benefits of CBD so we would argue that as long as it is all-natural hemp-based plant extract, you’re fine to use it. As long as you find a product that works well for you, there are a great many benefits to adding CBD to your skincare regimen, and many people have seen great results when using it topically for skincare.

Ultimately, whether you choose to use CBD in skincare or in your general wellness routine, know that it is relatively safe. There is continued research around the healing and wellness properties of CBD and so new things about this compound are being discovered everyday. In the meantime, why not give it a try and discover its positive effects for yourself?
